«Fascinating creatures, phoenixes.«—Albus Dumbledore opinion regarding the phoenix

The phoenix is a large swan-sized scarlet bird with red and gold plumage, along with a golden beak and talons, black eyes, and a tail as long as a peacock‘s. Its scarlet feathers glow faintly in darkness, while its golden tail feathers are hot to the touch.

Wands

«A wand is the object through which a witch or wizard channels his or her magic. It is made from wood and has a magical substance at its core. Wands made by Ollivander have cores of phoenix feather, unicorn hair or dragon heartstring, and are of varying woods, lengths, and flexibilities.«—Description of a wand

Dolores Umbridge

«When they entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom they found Professor Umbridge already seated at the teacher’s desk, wearing the fluffy pink cardigan of the night before and the black velvet bow on top of her head. Harry was again reminded forcibly of a large fly perched unwisely on top of an even larger toad.«—A negative impression of Dolores

Early-life of Tom Riddle

«You think I was going to use my filthy Muggle father’s name forever? I, in whose veins runs the blood of Salazar Slytherin himself, through my mother’s side? I, keep the name of a foul, common Muggle, who abandoned me even before I was born, just because he found out his wife was a witch? No, Harry. I fashioned myself a new name, a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak, when I had become the greatest sorcerer in the world!«—Tom Riddle’s transformation into Lord Voldemort Продолжить чтение «Early-life of Tom Riddle»

Patronus charm

«This ancient and mysterious charm conjures a magical guardian, a projection of all your most positive feelings. The Patronus Charm is difficult, and many witches and wizards are unable to produce a full, corporeal Patronus, a guardian which generally takes the shape of the animal with whom they share the deepest affinity. You may suspect, but you will never truly know what form your Patronus will take until you succeed in conjuring it.«—Miranda Goshawk‘s overview of the Patronus Charm Продолжить чтение «Patronus charm»

Unlocking Charm

The Unlocking Charm, also known as the Thief’s Friend(Alohomora) is a charm that unlocks and opens doors, windows and objects that are not protected by magic. It is also able to open doors locked by the Locking Spell (Colloportus).

Although it is unknown who invented it (the spell was created in Africa) it was brought to Britain and hence to the world in the 17th century by Eldon Elsrickle. He used it to terrorise London, stealing from homes of Muggles and wizards alike, until Blagdon Blay invented the Anti-Alohomora Charm. Продолжить чтение ««Hermione’s» charms»

Unforgivable Curses

«Harry shouted, “Crucio!”. The Death Eater was lifted off his feet. He writhed through the air like a drowning man, thrashing and howling in pain, and then, with a crunch and a shattering of glass, he smashed into the front of a bookcase and crumpled, insensible, to the floor.» —Harry Potter’s use of the Cruciatus Curse

These three curses have been classified as»Unforgivable» in Wizarding society since 1717 according to Dumbledore.

Harry Potter

Harry James  Potter  was a half-blood wizard, one of the most famous wizards of modern times. He was the only child and son of James and Lily Potter (née Evans), both members of the original Order of the Phoenix. Harry’s birth was overshadowed by a prophecy, naming either himself or Neville Longbottom as the one with the power to vanquish Lord Voldemort. After half of the prophecy was reported to Voldemort courtesy of Severus Snape, Harry was chosen as the target due to his many similarities with the Dark Lord. This caused the Potter family to go into hiding. Voldemort made his first vain attempt to circumvent the prophecy when Harry was a year and three months old. During this attempt he murdered Harry’s parents as they tried to protect him, but this unsuccessful attempt to kill Harry led to Voldemort’s first downfall.
